Description

The Balmes Cave, which overlooks Sollières, is a landmark in Alpine archaeology. Its first occupation dates back to 3700 BC. During the 3,000 years of habitation at the site, these farming and herding communities maintained relationships with their environment that went far beyond mere subsistence. Strong cultural influences reflect intense exchanges with civilizations from Languedoc, Switzerland, and Italy.
