Because it is here in the Maurienne, we can count the greatest number of mythical passes! Galibier, Glandon, Croix de Fer, Iseran, Madeleine, Telegraph, etc. are names that most certainly speak to you! But there are also the passes of Mont Cenis, Chaussy, Grand Cucheron, Mollard and the famous Montvernier laces, highlighted during the passage of the Tour de France 2015. 

Here, road biking is king! This is why the local businesses in the region are mobilizing to offer you a welcome that meets your expectations.

Today, there are more than 60 road routes are to be discovered, more than 100 establishments labeled “Qualité Cyclo Maurienne” and / or “Accueil Vélo” are ready to welcome you and offer you optimal service, more than 250 E-BIKES await “pilots” for day trips or more engaged tours. 

Road biking may be the King (or Queen), then it’s Princes and Princesses are mountain biking, gravel biking and E-bikes. For those that like it a little bit more wild and to get off the tarmac. The Maurienne has plenty of trails for you to discover also.

The Maurienne also has 3 designated mountain bike areas labeled by the FFC (French Cycling Federation) to practice, cross-country, enduro and downhill. They are located in Valloire, Avran-Villard and the Haute Maurienne. The Haute Maurienne has a network of trails all available on your smartphone via the R-BIKE application, for fun and sporty routes in exceptional surroundings.

Each summer, the valley attracts pros and amateurs alike during more than 30 cycling events: The Tour de France, Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc, La Marmotte, the Trans-Maurienne MTB race and La Trilogie de Maurienne, just to name a few. 

The Maurienne is quite simply an exceptional playground for all cyclists in search of challenges but also remains a destination appreciated for its authentic character and its breathtaking panoramas, all cyclists should take the time to watch and enjoy them.
