Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne Photo gallery

Harder than the Croix-de-Fer, this 45-lacet pass has an average gradient of 6-7% over 12 km. If you take a look at the Aiguilles d'Arves, you'll easily understand why one of them is called "la Tête de Chat"!

Description

This loop takes you up to the Col du Mollard, below the Aiguilles d'Arves, on an off-the-beaten-track route. It begins at the Col de la Confrérie in Albiez-le-Jeune. With its 45 switchbacks, this ascent will not leave you indifferent. You can fill up your water bottle at the Léchères leisure area.
The rest of the route is on an open road offering magnificent views of the Aiguilles d'Arves. At the Col du Mollard, you can take a dip in the lake beside the pass and fill your water bottle at the fountain, before returning down the Opinel road.
This route retraces the history of the famous Opinel knife: at the bottom of the descent, you'll see the old factory before reaching Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne town center.
This loop combines sporting challenge and local heritage, without forgetting the exceptional mountain scenery that will accompany you along the way.
