Opinel Museum

Description

In 1890, Joseph Opinel (1872–1960) created the first Opinel knife in the small hamlet of Gévoudaz, near Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
His small pocket knife, which has borne the La Main Couronnée® mark since 1909, quickly became a success both nationally and internationally.
Since the early 20th century, the family-owned business has come a long way! Now manufactured in Chambéry, Opinel knives are sold in more than 70 countries around the world.

As you leave the museum, stop by the gift shop where you can have your knives engraved, and enjoy the lounge/bar area with its terrace!

The exhibition can be viewed in English, Italian, and German via QR codes.

Tours end 30 minutes before the museum closes.


The Opinel Trail—a historical walking tour in Gévoudaz
Immerse yourself in the history of the Opinel knife in Gévoudaz, where it all began, by taking this 1.5-km walking tour to discover Opinel’s historic sites.

Period of opening

From 01/07 to 31/08 daily between 9 am and 6.30 pm.
Tours end 30 minutes before closing time.

From 01/09 to 30/06 from Monday to Saturday between 9 am and 6.30 pm.
Closed exceptionally on January 1st, Easter Monday, Feast of the Ascension, Whit Monday, May 1st, May 8th, November 1st, November 11th and December 25th.
Tours end 30 minutes before closing time.
